A few days ago at Tech center we reported a rumor about Facebook's new video calling feature to be revealed on the 6th of July. Its now official! Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the new features at the company's headquarters in Palo Alto, California. This announcement follows up on Zuckerberg making a comment of "something awesome" last week. You can now video chat with your friends right from Facebook at minimal hassle without any software.
Skype video chat will be fully integrated into Facebook with an extension that is designed to make it as easy to use as possible. Essentially, video chat within Facebook is just a couple of clicks away.
The new 'Call ' button you will find on your friends profiles and chat box |
Facebook is also launching a new chat sidebar today which by default is said to takes the entire right side of the screen, and the first time you click on any user you’ll see a prompt asking if you’d like to make your first video call. Another new thing is multi-person chat, which is said to be one of the most requested features according to Facebook. Facebook will make the video chat feature available to everyone soon but if you are the impatient one you can get it now.
